CHARACTERS PLAYED @ COLLIGO:

THE CHARACTER
FULL NAME: Sherlock Holmes
SERIES/FANDOM: Sherlock (BBC)
AGE: 33
GENDER: Male
SPECIES: Human
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual but remarkably uninterested in most women. DULL.
ALIGNMENT: Neutral Good

PERSONALITY: A brilliant mind and an even more vivid spirit, Sherlock is a man of drastic and changeable moods especially when he finds himself unoccupied. At his best when occupied with his work, particularly cases that move to be complicated and ingenious, Sherlock can be charming, engaging, and even relatively playful with people who he feels able to truly interact with (typically limited to John). When left without anything to entertain him, however, Sherlock quickly falls into severe and sullen moods that, depending upon his level of boredom, can become rather abusive with his conversation being brisk to non-existent and his recreational activities being bizarre to destructive.

Normally, however, Sherlock strikes the picture of the calm, cool, composed, and calculated individual that he is. With quite the ego, one which is well deserved, he oozes arrogance and superiority despite the fact that half of his conclusions truly are just well educated (lucky) guesses. Because he has confidence in his abilities, he isn't afraid to put himself out there and knows that he often gets some things wrong because of it. Usually, it's the things that he simply can't see coming (such as Harry being short for Harriet) or things that there weren't any clues that he could deduce from. He tries not to let the wrong answers get his side-tracked, though, because focusing on the wrong answers only prevents you from finding the correct ones.

Caring is also an issue that he runs into. Sherlock knows that it doesn't help to care about these that might be in danger and in fact might impair his ability to work. But as much as he might pretend not to be worried about anyone in his cases that is in harms way, especially anyone that is put in harm's way BECAUSE of him like Moriarty's victims, he still does feel the pressure that comes with having their lives hang in the balance and having someone die on his watch effects him far more than he likes to show. And because of his tendency to brush these things off so that he can move on and focus, many people assume him cold and unfeeling when that isn't true.

He feels.

He just doesn't know how to deal with it.

ABILITIES: A master of detection, deduction, observation, and analysis, Sherlock is the sort of man that can take the trifles that most people ignore and extract entire scenarios. With keen insight and an obsessive eye for detail that leads him to being able to pick out the nuances of peoples' lives, Sherlock has earned the nickname 'Freak' with the majority of the police force. The only consulting detective ever, Sherlock spends his time assisting when the police find themselves outside of their depth. Despite DI Lestrade's willingness to go to him for help when he finds himself in a tough spot, Sherlock's abilities are generally not well prized to anyone but himself.

There used to be two exceptions in that matter: one being in John Watson's rather atypical admiration of Sherlock's 'freak' talents and the other being in the fascination of his intellectual equal and moral antithesis, Jim Moriarty. But a third has wormed its way around and through him in the form of Ms. Irene Adler. While John's interest is not only harmless but often times helpful and Moriarty's has proven to be far more dangerous than any "fan's" interest should ever be, it is Ms. Adler who has proven herself to be the most remarkably cunning and dangerous to Sherlock yet. Mostly because he, himself, has yet to fully realize that she is. While Sherlock might beg off and make any possible number of excuses for his actions in saving her life, it was very simply and easily the sentiment which he so detests in others that wormed its way around him and forced his hand into action. It is this which sustains his admiration, and it is this which, should she ever attempt to play upon it again, would move him to action once more.

WEAKNESSES: His heart. Despite what most people think, Sherlock isn't a psychopath nor is he a sociopath as he claims. With no grasp on the basic emotions like most people, it has always been easier to pretend that he doesn't feel them rather than admitting that there is something which he doesn't understand. His friendship -- because, yes, it is a friendship -- with Watson has complicated this situation because before he could easily ignore any concerns that he might have had for individuals because they were strangers or only acquaintances who tolerated his presence because they needed him. With John, it is something quite different, and something easily exploited. As Jeff said, he's just a man, and when he deals with monsters, caring becomes a liability.
